Eulogy read at the funeral service
Created by Sheila 12 years ago
Bob was born in Bradford where he went to a Grammar School even though he failed his 11 plus first time round.
His mother Cecilia and father Robert owned many businesses and as a child he was left to his own devices as they were always
too busy to notice what he was up to, ie racing cars down country lanes and smoking from an early age.
His parents moved to Wales while he did three years National Service in Gibralter, where they had opened a fish and chip shop.
Bob met Sheila in Wales, he married her and had twins Peter and Pauline, then Robert came along. When his father died he ran the
family fish and chip shop with his mother (the best fish and chip shop as he would say), when they opened each day there was
always a queue of people.
The family then moved to Dulwich Village, London where he worked for his sister Violet's husbands family in ship stores. This is
where he learnt spanish from the crew, swear words first!
Bob then worked for Royal Liver insurance where he came into contact with some colourful characters. He also had a greengrocers
for a few years but he was no business man as he was too generous to his customers!
He was always involved with his childrens lives teaching them to swim, drive and on their PTAs. He also became a Governor of St
Bartholomews Primary School which two of his grandchildren attended, as you may think a very upstanding thing to do but we are
talking when schools were not so PC as they are now and the headmaster Mr Campling, a colourful character, would usher Bob in
his office supposedly for an urgent meeting where they spend many an hour chewing the fat over a whisky and a fag.
He then retired to Spain and you all know the rest,+ UD Horadada football club became his life.
